Common Questions
When is the best time of year to paint outside?
Late spring through early fall in Michigan. We need surfaces dry and temperatures steady for the coating to cure properly. We book the season early, so if you are planning for next summer it is worth getting on the schedule.
How long does an exterior take?
Most homes run several days to a week once washing, scraping, caulking and repair are counted. Larger homes take longer. You get a day count in the estimate rather than an open ended promise.
How long should an exterior paint job last?
Done properly, eight to twelve years on most surfaces. The sun facing walls always go first. What shortens it is skipped prep, not cheap paint.
Can you paint over failing or peeling paint?
Not directly, and anyone who says otherwise is selling you a repaint in two years. Loose material has to come off, edges have to be feathered, and bare wood needs priming. That work is the job.
Do you paint brick?
Yes, with the right breathable product. Brick holds moisture, and the wrong coating traps it and blows the finish off in sheets. It is also close to permanent, so we will talk it through before you commit.
What about rotten wood and damaged trim?
We find it when we scrape and we tell you. Minor filling is part of the job. Boards that are gone need replacing before paint, and we flag that in the estimate rather than covering it up.
Will you protect our landscaping?
Yes. Plants, walks and windows get covered, and we clean the site at the end of each day rather than leaving scrapings in your beds.
Do you spray or brush and roll?
Both, depending on the surface. Spraying with proper back rolling gives an even film on siding. Trim, doors and detail work are done by hand, which is slower and looks better.
How much does exterior painting cost?
It depends on the size of the house, the condition of the existing finish and how much repair is needed, so we do not quote sight unseen. The walkthrough and the written estimate are free.
